I guess you could say I saved the best for last. The size of Zion National Park alone is amazing, not to mention the beauty and variety of scenery. Mountains, canyons, valleys, trees, a flowing river, and the wildlife that call this place home, all mesh together in this “Promised Land”.
When I first had the idea of taking this trip, I was only planning for a month or two on the road. So I didn’t want to invest in a big minivan project. My thought was to buy a cheap old used minivan, remove the seats, throw a foam mattress and cooler in the back and hit the road.
Stop at the Visitor Center. They provide free maps and information. You can learn a little history about the place before you visit. Any questions you have, they’ve got the answer. They can tell you where camping is available, which sites allow dispersed camping, which sites have toilets, what areas are dog friendly etc.
It’s about a 2-hour drive from Moab to Capitol Reef National Park. Make sure you fill up with gas and grab snacks before hitting the road because there are not many places to stop along the way.
Whether you are an adrenaline junkie or nature photographer, Moab has it all. Located approximately 30 miles south of I-70, lies this quaint little town in eastern Utah. Two of it’s biggest attractions are Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park.
After driving from Denver, I arrived to Moab, Utah around sunset and luckily found an open campsite for the night. Most of the sites are on a first come first serve basis and tend to fill up early in the day, depending on the time of year.
I have always wanted to get a camper van and explore the amazing national parks we have in our own backyard in America. Most people aren’t able to take long road trips until after retirement because they have a job, a family, and a house etc
